"Compensation is only one factor for Employees to stay in a job or move to a new company," added Dr. John McFerran, COO and founder of People First HR. "Employers understand this shift and as a result companies are looking for a more strategic solution to HR management that includes combining salary, benefits, working environment, culture and other variables. With our new team we can provide the broad expertise CEOs and Senior HR Executives want from an HR firm so they can focus on the job of growing their business."

HealthSource Plus - Announces intent to acquire group benefit and pension practices

HealthSource Plus - today announced that it has secured financing to initiate its acquisition strategy previously announced.  "HealthSource plus has experiences unprecedented growth over the past 3 years.  Currently, our organic growth has outpaced our acquisitive growth" says Bruce Bell, CEO.  "The pace of consolidation has focused us on executing our strategic plans in shorter order than we anticipated. The benefits broker is increasingly challenged by shrinking markets, lack of innovation and increased customer expectations.  Brokers will either have to invest heavily into their business, as we have, or join together with firms to leverage expertise and resources. In most cases, consolidation at the top leads to consolidation at the distribution level and we want to be at the table. While we will focus on the small and medium sized brokers in the group benefits and pension space, should larger acquisitions opportunities open up, we want to be there."  More.

Navigating Change

In today's world, the increase in competition has forced organizations to reinvent themselves entirely so that they can be in a better position to meet new and higher standards. As a result, change can hit organizations like a tidal wave.

Products and services must be better, faster to market, more cost effective and more innovative than ever before. Organizations must be highly flexible at every level to adapt quickly to new technologies, regulations and customer demands.

This all creates new demands and challenges for your employees. Change can be disorienting and overwhelming.

So how do you navigate change yourself and help others?

  1. Acknowledge your own reactions: It is difficult to move forward with a change unless you understand your thoughts and feelings about it. If you ignore your initial reactions, they may surface later which could prevent you from taking any action at all. You can lead people only as far as you have come yourself.
  2. Assess the impact of the change: Take some time to assess the impact of the change objectively and thoroughly and you will be in a better position to identify potential obstacles and make appropriate adjustments. You will maximize your ability to adapt successfully and will minimize the emotional distress and discomfort change can bring.
  3. Seek and acknowledge the reaction of others: Change creates stress - anger, fear, anxiety and frustration can undermine self-confidence and self-esteem. By encouraging others to express their feelings, concerns and needs, you can help them work through those feelings and return their focus to the task at hand. Your empathy lays the foundation for trust and open communication.
  4. Take position action individually and with others: When you are dealing with a major change, it is normal to feel a loss of control. Do not expect to be able to take on everything at once. Instead, take charge of what you can do and encourage others to do the same.

As a navigator, be supportive and responsive to your employees needs. Many people will be frustrated simply by the lack of information they need in order to adjust and adapt. When an employee's job changes significantly, they many not know what to do or how to do it well. Be patient. We all need time to adjust to change and having the skills to navigate through our rapidly changing business world is now considered a necessity.
