Many of our employers are committed to helping their employees lead healthier, more productive and happier lives through the introduction of the concept of "Wellness".
" What is Wellness? " you might say.
It seems to have different meanings for different people, but for us, it's a strategy for our clients to help them control the ongoing increases in healthcare costs by helping employees make better and more informed decisions regarding their personal health. It stands to reason that an employee that quits smoking will claim fewer drugs over a long period of time. Moreover, an employee that loses 20 pounds may take fewer drugs over the long term for cholesterol or high blood pressure.
According to the sanofi-aventis Healthcare Survey - 2005 , "73% of employees agree that they have an obligation to help their employer control the costs of their employee health benefits plan". Fully 54% of employees either strongly agreed or somewhat agreed that "the cost of employee health benefit plans should be higher for employees who smoke, don't exercise or are seriously overweight." Clearly, employee attitudes are currently shifting towards taking responsibility for the own health and the consequences of not doing so.
For these reasons and more, I am happy to introduce you to the HealthSource Wellness Program. A Testimonial to the HealthSource Plus TOTAL Wellness Program from an Employee:
I wanted to tell you a couple specifics of how your programs have helped me.
First - Living Easy: I mentioned that I took your stress course last year. Before, I was a person who did not handle the little irritations in life very well - such as standing in line or having computer problems. That combined with a busy life left me in a constant state of stress. In taking your course I realized that I had a pattern of blaming others and being critical of them. I was surprised to realize that because I've always thought of myself as a really nice loving person. So I changed and took responsibility for things I could, and let go of the rest, which has led me to live a much fuller and more harmonious life. This new way of thinking came in very handy not long after I did the course when I was faced with some extremely stressful situations. My father developed lung cancer, my dear aunt developed dementia, and my mother-in-law had a major surgery which left her unable to drive for a month. It was a very hard time when all this hit, but I really came through it with flying colors by adapting my reaction to events. I continue to "live above the line" and try to model that for my 16 year old son.
Living Lean: I went through the course with a couple fits and starts, but that is ok. I've been living lardy for about 35-40 years (even when I was younger and thinner), so it is only natural that it will take time for my identity to change. The first great thing I took away from the course is that "the choice is up to me." Previously, I had a victim mentality, not just with food, but in many areas of my life. By saying "the choice is up to me" I was empowered. I also gave choice to loved ones by saying, "the choice is up to you." And for the first time in my life I was not sneaking food. I figured if nothing else, that was a very good thing. I became almost rebellious, saying "the choice is up to me" as I openly ate previously forbidden foods. But the cool thing is that it made my eating very conscious and real, so I gained awareness and self knowledge.
Another thing I gained was an understanding of the "gap" and the concept of being the "possibility" of something. I really surprised myself one morning when I woke up and said, "Today is a day of possibilities." Suddenly things started snowballing and I was filled with optimism and energy. Since then I have been doing all kinds of home repairs and fun projects. I am even thinking about trying some writing.
I have not actually lost any significant weight yet (20 pounds), but that is ok. It is a process. I am changing. I am laying the foundation to be able to do anything, including losing significant weight. I continue to work the course, and as I gain awareness of my ACTS and do my visualizations the lbs are starting to fall off.
Lastly and most importantly is making the connection between what I choose to put in my mouth and the benefits or consequences it will bring me. I'm still pretty amazed at how well the creed card works for me now. Last night I went to a charity function with lots of tempting unhealthy food, and I carried the creed card in my pocket where I could feel it with my hand. Just touching it was enough of a reminder about the real choice I would be making if I ate those foods.
Your courses have really helped me and I really appreciate your work in developing them and getting them out to the masses.
